In America, Hispanics are underrepresented in STEM fields (science, technology, engineering, and math). To encourage education in these fields, the Hispanic American Freethinkers (HAFree), with support provided by Foundation Beyond Belief, is pleased to announce the Hispanic American Freethinkers STEM College Scholarship of $2,000.
Mr. David Tamayo, President of HAFree, said, “Because Hispanics are now the largest and one of the fastest growing minority groups in the United States, it is imperative for the health of our nation and for a greater equality of access that we encourage high school students to stay in school and specialize in STEM fields.”
The Hispanic American Freethinkers is a national organization dedicated to promoting rational thought and rejecting the supernatural. Studies have shown that more education is correlated with less supernatural belief, so this scholarship promotes the best and most natural way to promote path to a secular America.
Awards are open to all high school graduates or current college students who come from an economically disadvantaged Hispanic background, and are the first member of their family to attend college.
Apply before May 30, 2015, by submitting the attached scholarship application, along with a transcript of grades for the previous year and an essay on one of the following topics: the importance of education, separation of church and state, reason, or how a person can know whether a claim is true or false.
