Mubarak Bala, President of the Humanist Association of Nigeria, was arrested on 28 April by two police officers who took him from his home. Bala faces allegations of having insulted the Prophet Muhammad in a Facebook post.
Humanists International (HI) reports that at the time of writing their notes, it is unclear whether he has been formally charged. HI declares to have reason to believe that if Mubarak were to be charged with “blasphemy” he is found guilty. He could face the death penalty.
Mubarak Bala, is well-known within the global humanist community after he was detained in a psychiatric ward on the grounds that he was an atheist. With the the support of Humanists International, Mubarak was freed on 3 July 2014.

Mubarak Bala, presidente de la Asociación Humanistas de Nigeria, fue arrestado el 28 de abril por dos policías que lo sacaron de su casa. Bala enfrenta acusaciones de haber insultado al profeta Mahoma en una publicación de Facebook. Al momento de escribir, no está claro si ha sido acusado formalmente. HI declara tener razones para creer que si Mubarak fuera acusado de "blasfemia" y se declarará culpable y podría enfrentar la pena de muerte.
Mubarak Bala es bien conocido dentro de la comunidad humanista mundial después de que fue detenido en una sala psiquiátrica por ser ateo. Con el apoyo de HI, Mubarak fue liberado el 3 de julio de 2014.
